Spalling
Surface flaking, chipping, or breaking away of brick and stone faces, typically caused by Ontario's freeze-thaw cycles, poor drainage, or age-related deterioration. Spalling creates safety hazards as pieces can fall, and exposes interior brick to accelerated damage. Early signs include small chips, surface scaling, or corners breaking away. If left untreated, spalling spreads rapidly and can require expensive complete wall rebuilding. Professional repair involves removing damaged areas and installing properly sealed replacements to prevent recurring damage and protect your family from falling debris.
