FAQ
Working with us
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. We understand plans change—just give us a call and we’ll work with you.
I have special timing needs. Can you accommodate?
Absolutely! If you have scheduling restrictions (vacations, other contractor work, by-law requirements, etc.), let us know as early as possible, and we’ll do our best to adjust your timeline.
Do you handle cleanup and disposal?
Yes! All projects include cleanup and disposal unless stated otherwise. We leave your property as clean as we found it.
Is my work warrantied?
Yes, we guarantee workmanship for 2 years, unless otherwise stated. If something’s not right, we fix it.
Do I need to be home during the work?
No, as long as we have access to the work area, electricity, and water. Interior work is an exception—we coordinate access for those projects.
Who will be working on my project?
Our in-house team, never subcontractors. Crews typically include a senior bricklayer and an apprentice, though larger projects may have additional crew members.
Scheduling and Timeline
How long does a typical project take?
Project timelines vary depending on scope. Small repairs can be completed in 1-2 days, while larger restoration projects may take a week or more. We provide a timeline estimate with your quote.
How will I know my exact start date?
We finalize our work schedule every Friday for the upcoming week. If your project is scheduled, we will call you that Friday to confirm your start date.
What happens after I approve my quote?
We call clients every Friday to confirm receipt of recently approved quotes and provide an estimated scheduling timeline.
Quotes and Payment
How do you determine pricing?
Pricing is based on project scope, materials needed, accessibility, and time requirements. We provide detailed written estimates that break down the work so you know exactly what’s included.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept E-Transfer (info@fixmybrick.ca), cheque (arrange for pickup), and credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, 3.5% convenience fee applies.).
How do I approve my quote?
Review and approve your quote using the link provided in your email or text. It’s quick and easy.
Do you provide free estimates?
Yes. We provide free, no-obligation quotes for all our masonry services. Most quotes are delivered within 24-48 hours after a site assessment or photo review.
Brick Repair
Is it better to repair or replace damaged bricks?
This depends on the extent of damage. Minor issues can often be repaired, but severely damaged or structurally compromised bricks should be replaced. We’ll assess your situation and recommend the most practical solution.
Can you match the colour of my existing bricks?
Yes, we specialize in colour matching and can source bricks that closely match your existing ones. For older buildings, we often use reclaimed bricks to achieve the best match.
How do I know if my bricks need repair?
Look for cracking, spalling (flaking), loose mortar, white staining (efflorescence), or damp spots inside. If you notice any of these, it’s worth having us take a look.
Chimney Services
Do you install chimney caps?
Yes, we install chimney caps to prevent water intrusion, animal entry, and debris accumulation. A proper cap is essential protection for your chimney.
How often should I have my chimney inspected?
We recommend annual chimney inspections, especially before the heating season. Regular inspections help identify issues early and prevent costly repairs.
Why is my chimney leaking when it rains?
Common causes include damaged flashing where the chimney meets the roof, a cracked crown, or deteriorated mortar joints. We inspect to find the source and fix it properly.
Tuckpointing
Will the new mortar match my existing mortar?
Yes. We custom-tint mortar to match your existing joints so repairs blend in with your original masonry.
How long does tuckpointing last?
Quality tuckpointing can last 25-30 years or more with proper conditions. Longevity depends on weather exposure, mortar quality, and building conditions.
What is tuckpointing?
Tuckpointing is the process of removing deteriorated mortar from between bricks and replacing it with fresh mortar. This restores structural integrity and prevents water infiltration.
Insurance and Credentials
Do you do WETT inspections?
We prepare chimneys to pass WETT inspection for insurance or real estate purposes. We can coordinate with your WETT inspector as needed.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We are WSIB insured and fully licensed. We carry comprehensive liability insurance to protect both our clients and our team.
